In
Madrid, the capital of Spain, if you listen carefully from your
kitchen balcony, you can often hear you neighbour beating eggs
and preparing a potato omelette for dinner. The "tortillla
de patatas" is a typical Spanish omelette that usually
contains fried potatos and some onions. There are no kitchens in
Madrid which have not witnessed the making of a "tortillia".
There
must be some very typical food or drink that you grew up with in
your city. Try to describe to your fellow students the colours,
tastes and looks of a meal people in your city really enjoy. Use
words and maybe drawings (not photographs) but try to make it
neither too difficult nor too easy to guess the identity of the
city
through it's kitchen.
An
example from our mystery city:
This nourishing dish is the traditional breakfast and
parhaps even the national dish here. The main ingredient is
simmered all night in a special pot, and then topped with olive
oil, lemon juice and crashed garlic with salt. Sometimes side
dishes of boiled eggs, chopped tomatoes, green onions and
parsley are served along with it. If you use the smaller variety
of the main ingredient, you get a more delicate flavor than with
the common large and flat variety. This dish is usually eaten
without a spoon or fork. Rather, it is scooped up in flat pieces
of bread.
