Instructions for Activity IIITwentieth Century Armenian Migrations Hello, this is Aren again. Welcome to the main part of Activity III - Places.
I constructed an interactive map of the world, which you can access by clicking on the map below. If you click on one of the marked areas, you will see a short description of Armenians in that area and how they got there. Explore the different regions of the map when you get a chance. But first, let me tell you what I want you to do for this Activity, and how we will use it to link more information to the map.
Think about the different countries of the schools which are in your color group. These are the same schools whose identities you tried to guess in Activity II, during the Identity Game.
Now you know who they are, and I want you to do the following: Try to find cases of immigration from the countries in which those other schools are located. Are there any Armenians in your family, among your friends, or neighbors who have come from one of those countries? Once you find cases of real-life migration, we would like you to carry out two or more of the following tasks. Click on each task for detailed instructions:
The information that will come out as a result of doing the above tasks will allow us to get some understanding of why people migrate and the effects the migration has on them. Try to collect this information quickly, so that you will be able to contact the team in the country from which the migration route you are studying began. Perhaps they can help you find some revealing information about the place they came from, or people who knew them there. They might also ask you to help them out with the case they are studying. You will see that collaborating with your friends over the Internet can open up a whole new dimension for you. When I get the real-life information you will produce about migration, I will add it to the clickable areas on the map, turning it into a really interesting resource. We can then submit the result of our collaborative work to the Web site of the International Organization for Migration at www.iom.int, through their "Your Input" section. You know my email address: aren@narod.org. Talk to me if you need anything. |
