Mobility statistics in the classroom

Activity III - Places - is about Armenian population movements in recent history. But before we jump into the main part of Activity III, let us begin by preparing some statistics about the movements of your family, and those of students of each participating class.

We want to know whether each of you was born in the country where you now live, or in some other country. Also, whether one or both of your parents, and which of your grandparents were born in the country where you now live. Once you collect and analyze the data for your class, you will be able to compare the results with those of classes in other parts of the world.

Look at the two charts below, where black represents the percentage of students who were born where they now live, and white represents the percentage of those who came from somewhere else.

Which of these charts do you think is more representative of your class? By filling out our "Classroom Mobility Statistics" form, you will find out the percentages for your class, including information about parents and grandparents. Once all participating schools submit their forms, you will be able to compare your class to all the other classes worldwide.

Click on one of the links below to get the "Classroom Mobility Statistics" form that you will fill out. If you have Microsoft Excel (version 3.0 or higher), click on the "MS Excel ..." link. Otherwise, choose the "Text file ...".
